P&C Draw

After much ducking and diving, lurking and spying, ass-kicking and pistol-whipping, and deflecting of bullets with my wonder-woman style bracelet thingys, I've managed to track down the draw for Saturday and Sunday...

Draw

Sunday silliness, Monday madness

After a session that included two pieces on sunday afternoon, and a broken foot-plate for the bow-man who is just too strong for any boat (see odds for the latest progress in boat breaking)....

We took to the water on monday night and did another two pieces, no broken boat this time and some good speed (gotta keep the slide sloooow and sit up tall!?!?!)... we did however have a very broken pair of shorts... the stroke-man wrecked his pyjama shorts!!! Should we have a whip round to buy him some lycra replacements???

Lets hope Julian is as impressed as the folks on the bank, one male crew asked if we were in the veterans category and tried to push the boat over when he found out we weren't, hahahaa!!! Looks like we've got'um scared...

Bring it on!!!!!! grrrrrr.... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... pysche!!!!!!

The t-shirts cometh ;o)

We have been on several sessions with the other half of our coaching team... three sessions in all.

First session, learning to steer and the crew getting used to a new seating order.
Second session, good honest yakka, and improving rowing.
Third session, crazy happening... broken runner, broken riggers, misplaced feet, crabs caught and the like... and a session partially coachless in the tank room... all followed by an excellent nosh up at the "Llandaff Bar&Grill".

Coming next... sunday 5pm session, and the joys of the draw for next week... one week till the race days and the t-shirts will have to be made in a hurry ;o)

To please Steve... yes... they are black, haha!!

Do you want to come back to mine?
Whilst Mrs Lush and I were trying to get some shut-eye on Saturday night at LLandaff we were kept awake by some mysterious noises.

On investigation, the highly repetitive creeking noises appeared to be coming from a Port-A-Loo?

Either the pump flush was being seriously over-worked - or there was some less than classy loving going on!

I'm confident it didn't include a CBRC member - the rating was far too high...

Ps. CBRC - City of Bristol Rowing Club.
Pps. sorry haven't figured out hyperlinks for the moment (time is precious).

Llandaff echoes to the sound of rhymic grunting...

Once again last night the fantastic four grunted and wailed their way down a 500m piece into the club... I can only imagine what the 4-5 crews stood on the landing stage made of the sight and the sounds!!

As soon as we got off the river the LLandaff reporter (oops, sorry Llandaff webmaster) caught up with us to get our name and mentioned P&C appearing on their website!!! - I'm hoping sound clips are beyond their technology ;o)

We head into the weekends training (with our senior 3 lady coxswain / coach - bring diary milk bars one and all!!) with a potential seat swop, the strokeside two-some are dosee-doe'ing (spelling?)... which puts Steve in Stroke and Tom in the engine room with the hapless Hollins (he of "come on Hollins" fame)... will remain to be seen if Steve can row, stroke, listen to the cox and still manage to scream his lungs up!?!?!..... personally I can't wait for my first "come on Hollins" from Tom and us engine room grafters giving our new stroke man the rush/hurry up when the engine 'gets a slidin'.

Its all flaming good fun... though it has to be said the first man in lyrca still has to get the beers in ;o) T-shirts with names on anyone?? While the cox is away the kids will play, hahaha!!!!

Nice weather for ducks ;o)

It is the best of lovely british weather today, but it is likely that we will still be able to row. Unless the river rises more than 5-7inches to cover the landing stage!?!?! See you all at the club for 5pm, if the weather doesn't improve we could try the tank room before our river slot... have to see what the coach says on that one ;o)

Saturday morning at 9:30am seems to be the consensus from my canvasing of the crew and stand-in coach Sian.

I know that myself and Steve aren't available for the draw on sunday, I think Tom may be able to make it as well as prehaps Ross.

Happy puddle splashing, see ya'll for real big puddle splashing later ;o)

Blazing paddles, raw grunt & this weeks plan...

The weekend thrash was a passionate affair.... I had hearing problems for a spell after we got off the water. It seems that progress is coming along nicely, it took until session 5 for screaming but there we are, hehe!!

This week, we have the same slots as last....
Monday 5:30pm, by arriving at 5pm we hope for a longer session.
Tuesday 5:30pm Tank - which will probably be stratched, only took it because it wasn't available on river days :o(
Thursday 5:30pm, again by arriving at 5pm we hope for a longer session.
NB. We could fit the tank into one session if its free.

The perspective of a spy from the river-bank...

Saw the 4OMOTA doing a piece down from the bridge. Looking good, big improvement I think from earlier on in the week. Looking mostly together considering what I saw was the last 100m of a 500m piece when tiredness can start to creep in...

Couple of general bits of advice based on what I saw:

Sit up tall.
Don't kick before your blade is squared and covered in the water.
Make sure you are in time with stroke, it is up to everyone else to do likewise.

(the spy is going back to lurking now...........)

Thursday evening thrash anyone??

Its that time of the week again... tonight 5pm for hopefully a tank session then later in our slot time on the Taff.

I'll be hanging around whilst Sian sculls for a drink and then a burger from the "Llandaff Balcony Bar & Grill".

See ya'll later...
I believe Sians sitting in charge has indeed raised to a pint and a choccie bar!! Lets see if we can make her more relaxed in the boat tonight... I myself intend to keep my ass on my seat!?!?!?!

Session three - the three oarsman + one

Session three was an experience, three oarsman plus an oarswoman who is a senior 3 rower!?! There were good bits and there were funny bits and then there were bad bits... me losing my seat came under at least two of those categories!!

It was pointed out that my booking a tank session in isolation on tuesday was a little (okay a lot) stupid. We have opted to skip it in favour of tacking it onto the thursday river session... 5pm Tank, 5:30pm River.

Lessons learned the hard way...
- how not to get set in the boat (it took us an age to get a float) - luckily this slot had no time pressure.
- what not to do if you lose your seat (i.e. do not stop rowing, or pull your oar in, or arse about finding the seat- generally I did all three, sadly!!).
- what not to do if you get pulled in the slot lottery (see tank comment above).

Still the boat was moving quite sweetly at times and fun was had by all... especially in the weed!! It seems the stand-in crew members price may have risen to a pint and a bar of chocolate... she wasn't expecting such a good workout ;o)

Ps. as the camera wielding groupie was in the boat there are alas no photos ;o)

Week one training draw

Well we won the draw, first out of the hat... the sessions this week will be...

Monday 5:30pm - River (Tub 1 I believe)
Tuesday 5:30pm - Tank room
Thursday 5:30pm - River (again tub 1 I think)

If we can co-ordinate we should be able to get extended river sessions by arriving before the alloted 5:30... if all can be there by 5pm we can get near enough an hour on the river.

Sian has tentatively agreed to sit in, we can confirm everything tomorrow morning.

I suggest a session at least on the weekend when Tom is back from his Euro Nannying ;o)

Pictures of outing two will appear shortly... I have access to a 30 second video of us if anyone would like to look.

Proof of life...

Getting the beast on the water...
Always check which way the boat is going before getting in...

Where the hell is the seat?...

Saying good-bye to terra firma... do we look scared?...

Off we go... argh, the weed is slowing us down!!...

The bravest cox in the business...

Ah ha, we made it back, and we are all dry!!...

The afterglow, a nice relaxing pint, and payment for the cox... who seems to have vanished... prehaps to calm his nerves after working with The Four Oarsman of the Apothecary...

The Four Oarsmen of the Apothecary

Okay, okay... so here we are... the final incarnation of the name. What are we going to call the four of us after the name change? Overdose, Dispenser, Medicine, and Locum?

First session fun and a team name

Well the first session went well I think, everyone seemed happy and none of us fell into the Taff. For the first water outing I was in the stroke seat, Steve in 3, Ross in 2, and Tom in the bow seat... and our cox Julian sometimes sat in his seat and sometimes stood in it!!

During the post-row chill, drink and burger munch a team name was pulled at random by Julian... the result is evident by the changed blog title... and yes it was one of the first suggestions, d'oh!!

More news and hopefully pics to follow... ;o)

Russell Crow inspired name idea...

...Forty odd foot of grunting

[have to mention (after a google search) a coxed four is roughly 41 ft long]

A new era of rowing is dawning

Today four crazy fools take to the water to usher in a new era in rowing history... never will a boat have been rowed with such graceful and powerful comedic content. I myself will no doubt be rowing in the style of Crusty the Clown (he of Simpsons fame), complete with over-sized clumsy feet and continuous manic laughter.

I hope that all are fit, well and champing at the bit ready for a fun evening on the Taff. I will e-mail everyone my mobile number today to aid communication later and on other training sessions.

Ps. Anyone interested we had our first blog comment in response to Steve's name suggestion... anyone wishing to follow the link does so of the own free will, no one on the blog will know you followed it ;o)
